To change lives through sports, we need to bring people together, connect and get active.
Since March 2020 – this has not been possible. Our inaugural “After School Sports” program with Chicago’s Funston Elementary was cancelled. So were our summer opportunities camps.

WE ADAPTED
In partnership with Chicago’s Parents for Peace and Justice, we deployed our resources with a “whatever is needed most” approach. In doing so, we provided financial sponsorship and volunteer support for the following events:
The Belmont Cragin community is among nation’s most hard hit by the Covid-19 virus. Unemployment for services industry workers has left families without the most fundamental needs, like food.
The Jim Finks Foundation was established to provide support to kids and families in communities most affected by gang activities and violence. The greater Belmont Cragin community of Chicago and the Funston Elementary School have been identified as beneficiaries of our resources. With our partner Parents for Peace and Justice, we will continue to serve “immediate, emergency needs” as we battle the current health crisis. Depending on the environment, summer camp opportunities will be provided.

- March Against Violence with Chicago’s Parents for Peace and Justice (July, 2020)
- School Supply Drive for Chicago’s Funston Elementary School (Sept. 2020)
- Holiday Toy Drive for children in the Chicago’s Belmont Cragin/Hermosa (December, 2020)

MOVING FORWARD – THE CAMPAIGN GOAL: $95,000
With your help, we hope to fund the multiple programs in 2021. Those programs include:
After School Sport Programs
After School Sports for Funston Elementary will be offered to students in grades 3-4-5, the age where gang recruitment begins. The program will be rooted in sports, physical fitness and life skill education through sports. The six-week program will run from 3:45pm to 6pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. It consists of two-week sections, each focusing on a specific sport. At the conclusion of each section there will be field trip to a sporting event, museum, business, college campus, etc to broaden the experience. The anticipated enrollment will be 60 kids for each six week session and up to 3 session per school year. As we establish the operating model, we will increase the operating capacity to include grades 6-7-8. |
Immediate Emergency Needs: Community Assistance
With our partner Parents for Peace and Justice as well as community and school leadership, we will identify specific “emergency needs” we can satisfy for families in need. This includes food, clothing, equipment and supplies. We anticipate 4 to 6 such initiatives over the next 12 months. |
Summer Sports Camp
In the summer of 2018, in partnership with the NFL Alumni Association, we funded and operated the first School of Sports Camp. It proved to be a great success, serving over 100 kids, Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm daily. Participating campers came from communities most effected by gang activities and violence. Daily curriculum included football, baseball, lacrosse, floor hockey, basketball and yoga as well as daily leadership conferences and life skill seminars. Campers also received a free breakfast, lunch and snack. Guests from the Chicago Bears appeared as coaches and mentors each day. |
